Service Description

In this hour and thirty minute Zoom master class I will reveal my #1 HACK for mastering the sound change in the General American accent that can tend to give many actors from the UK and Down Under (as well as other actors who speak Aussie or British English) a bit of trouble... ...the 'R' SOUND!!! It's the one sound that can give you away as, well.. NOT American. Every time! I know you want to share your gifts as an actor in a larger market. And there's no larger one than the American one. And that requires really mastering the accent. Without that 'R', you really haven't mastered it. You've seen your fellows master it and book American roles. You know what it should sound like because you grew up CONSTANTLY watching American film and TV, but for you... ...it hasn't been so easy. The training you got, if you got any, didn't entirely stick. Maybe you've got a handle on some of it, but you need a bit more help on those damn sound changes... ...and ONE CHANGE that is particularly challenging- is that BLOODY 'R'! Every time you get to it in a bit of text you can't quite say it OR you over do it. It's one thing to hear how the accent should sound, another to see the sound changes on the page, and an entirely other thing to actually execute the sounds, embody your character and act on your instincts without "over efforting". So, exactly how do you make that sound and give it just enough so that you sound believably American? Well, that is exactly what THE AMERICAN 'R' CLINIC masterclass is all about... and MORE. In this short class, I will reveal my simple, #1 hack for mastering that 'R'. It's a reframe that you can apply in a similar way to other sound changes in the General American accent (and any accent, for that matter) and make mastering it much easier... Over the last twenty-seven years, in addition to TV, film and radio, I've performed in just over sixty professional theatre productions, on and off Broadway and across the U.S. In 30 of them (that's no exaggeration) I have had to have an accent other than my own. From Standard British to Russian, Norwegian to Alabaman, Israeli to New York Italian, to name a handful. That's not a brag, it's just to say that in my experience, I have discovered that it's a VERY REAL NEED we actors have to be prepared to meet. If you're wanting to work in the U.S. - General American is a must. Join me on Tuesday, January 30th at 10:00 - 11:30AM Pacific on Zoom. Event page and Zoom link: https://lu.ma/ykwa0aof
